Guided Adventure Rides

Where do we go?

ATV Adventure Rides are in Southern Utah.  Since we have poeple coming from both the east and the west coast, travel arrangements vary.

What trail system, where we start and end, etc. is only known by the staff of Superior Adventure Center, the team members (you) on the trip, and the friends and family you tell.

We do not discuss your itinerary on the internet or place photos of you on our website without your written permission.  We change our routes and direction from trip to trip so no matter how many times you go with us, you will always have a new adventure to tell your friends about.

After you have paid your deposit, we will send you the itinerary for your adventure, complete with starting and ending locations with day by day trip destinations.  All you have to do is pick your starting date.  Here is a sample itinerary letter like the one you will receive for more information.  Call Todd Gill at 660-263-5900.

Do you have what it takes?

This is the most misunderstood part of going on one of our Adventure Rides.   I have put together a Q & A section that will help you, however always feel free to call me at 660-263-5900 for more information.                                                           Todd A. Gill

Q:  Do I need to be a professional rider?

A:  No.  You do need to be able to follow instructions and be able to act on them.

Q:  Do I have to have all the equipment on the Rider Checklist?

A:  Yes.

Q:  I have never camped outside before, is it scary?

A:  It's not scary, it is beautiful.  If you are from an urban area, you will be shocked by how many stars there are or how bright the moon is.

Q:  Will I be able to sleep?

A:  You will sleep like a baby, trust me. I will make sure you have seen and done enough each and every day that you will be out like a light as soon as your head hits the pillow.

Q:  Will I be warm enough?

A:  If you bring the equipment on our checklist, you will be plenty warm in your tent and sleeping bag.  You may even want to sleep out under the stars around the campfire one night.

Q:  Do I have to ride an Arctic Cat ATV?

A:  No.  You will need to bring all the spare parts on the Guides Checklist for your particular brand and model of ATV.  Also, you will need to talk to Todd about modifications you may need to perform, i.e. Honda racks only have a 199 pound capacity.  You will be carrying more than that on this trip.  You would need to modify both the rack mounts and frame before going on this trip.

This is just an example, again call Todd about any modifications you may need to perform on your ATV.

Q:  What do the staff of Superior Adventure Center ride?

A:  Arctic Cat 650, 700 and Thundercat TRV's. The Thundercat touring model is custom built by Mike Wamsley and Todd Gill at our secret off site location where we do all of our Superior Signature Series custom ATV's.

Q:  Why TRV Arctic Cats?

A:  TRV's have more load capacity then the short wheel base ATV's.  They also ride much smoother, have better traction, handle and turn better than standard wheel based ATV's.  The really nice thing about TRV's is that you can change from a two-rider to a cargo bed or even a haul rack in less than one minute with no tools.  It is truly the most versital ATV on the market today.

Q:  Why do you use 650, 700 and Thundercats?  Do I need that much power?

A:  We use the big Arctic Cat motors for better fuel economy.  Yes, you heard me right.  You must remember you are not traveling on level ground - it is either up or down.  You will also be carrying a few hundred pounds of gear.  Last but not least. when you are over 8,000 feet above sea level. you loose about one-third of your power.  This all combine kills your 400cc power and fuel economy.  Here is an average on the same day for 400, 500, 650 and 700.  On this particular day we climbed almost all day and then drop down a series of switchbacks into town.

You can do the trip with your 400 and we never leave anyone alone or behind, but it's not much fun to have your ATV wide open all day trying to hit 12 mph only to have to stop and fill it up while everyone else takes a break and eats a snack while waiting on you.

Q:  How fast do we ride?

A:  An average moving speed is 14.87 mph (GPS).  You have to remember the trail condition, size of the ATV's in the group and the area we are traveling through all impacts our speed.  We are not in a race; we are sightseeing and nature watching.

Q:  How far do we travel a day?

A:  Each day is different, from 50 miles to over 130 miles in a day, but the average is 60 - 70 miles.

Q:  Can we bring our cell phones?

A:  Yes!  but they won't do you any good there.  There isn't any good service where we are 90% of the time, even when your in a town.

Q:  What about energencies?

A:  We will not let you suffer; we will shoot you and put up a marker.  NO, seriously we are trained for emergencies and carry a large medical kit.  We have dealt with high altitude cerebral edema, broken bones, cuts, bruises, colds, allergies, and the flu.  We took care of them all without shooting one of them.

Q:  What about a broken ATV?

A:  First, we will tease you about not riding on Arctic Cat, then we will fix your ATV with Arctic Cat parts so it won't brake again!  If it is an Arctic Cat, we will find out who the saboteur is and put them on K.P. duty.

Q:  Does my ATV have to be a four-wheel drive utility model?

A:  YES  and it must be at least a 400cc or larger.

Q:  Does my ATV need to be new?

A:  No.  But it does have to be well-maintained, good all-terrain tires with 75% tread (no mud tires), good exhaust system with flame arrestor (no loud exhaust).  If you have to ask, it is too loud!

What do I mean by well-maintained.  Download the ATV maintenance and condition checklist, go through everything on it and repair all issues you find.  When you arrive at our rally point the day before your Adventure Ride starts, a technicion will go over a master checklist of your gear and your ATV.  If you don't have everything or your ATV is not ready, you will have until the drivers meeting the next day to get everything up to proper specifications.  Let me be clear!  If you don't have your ATV and gear ship-shape and ready to roll, YOU DON"T GO!  You are on a team.  If you break down, no one goes anywhere until it's fixed.  Some things cannot be prevented, but starting out wrong with missing gear and poorly maintained and improper equipment can be a problem and will not be tolerated.  We keep your money for wasting our time and you don't get to waste anyone elses time either.
